How to Host Music Bingo

Learn how to host music bingo with BingoBeats: choose music, set the rules, invite players, run the game, and confirm winners.

On this page

1. Prepare your music bingo session

Music bingo replaces numbered calls with songs. Players listen, find matching songs on their cards, and mark them. The goal is to complete the winning pattern announced by the host.

Before opening the lobby, decide who you are hosting for, choose a suitable music theme, and plan the winning pattern and any prizes. Familiar songs help a new group get involved quickly.

  • A computer with BingoBeats open in a browser.
  • Speakers and a working music playback setup.
  • A reliable internet connection for hosting and joining.
  • Phones or tablets for players to use their digital cards.
  • An optional TV or projector for the Jumbotron.

2. Choose a playlist and playback option

Sign in and open Select Music. Choose a playlist that suits the room, then select the playback option you will use for the game.

Choose a theme your audience can recognize: a decade, a genre, sing-along favorites, or a mixture. Listen to your selections beforehand so you know what to expect.

  • Spotify Playback controls playback through Spotify.
  • BingoBeats Player uses the Spotify-powered player in your browser.
  • VirtualDJ Connector links the game to VirtualDJ and music files on your Windows computer.
  • External Player lets you manage the music yourself while using BingoBeats to run the game.

3. Set the rules for your game

After choosing playback, BingoBeats opens Gameplay Settings. Set the Bingo Target before players begin so everyone knows what they are trying to complete.

For a straightforward first game, start with One Line. Other targets include multiple lines, Four Corners, Edges, X Shape, and Full Card.

  • Highlight Current Column helps players locate the column for the current song.
  • Hide Artist shows song titles without the artist on player cards.
  • Allow Scoreboard lets players view confirmed winners.
  • Allow Catch Up lets players review missed songs and marks.
  • Block Invalid Bingo Calls prevents calls that do not meet the required pattern.

4. Check sound and the optional Jumbotron

Test the music through the speakers your audience will hear. Make sure it is loud enough to recognize while leaving room for announcements and conversation.

If you are using a TV or projector, open the Jumbotron on that display. Keep your host controls on your own screen, then review the display options in Game Settings.

Check that the display is readable from the back of the room. The Jumbotron supports the event, but players still use their own devices to mark their cards.

  • Confirm the correct audio output is selected.
  • Check the connection to your TV or projector.
  • Keep your computer connected to power.
  • Complete a practice playback check before admitting the audience.

5. Invite players and admit them

Share the game’s QR code or direct players to bingobeats.top/join. Give them the game code shown in the lobby.

Players enter the game code and choose a nickname. Review the waiting list, then use Admit for individual players or Admit All when appropriate.

Before starting, make sure admitted players can see their cards. Explain that they should mark a song when they recognize it and use the Bingo button when they complete the required pattern.

6. Start the game and control the pace

Return to the host game screen and select Start Game when your players and playback setup are ready.

Give players enough time to recognize each song and find it on their cards. Use Next to move forward when you are ready.

If you use the song timer, choose a duration that suits your audience. Auto advances the game when the timer expires, so leave it off when you want to control every change yourself.

With External Player, you manage playback separately. Keep the host’s current song in step with the music your audience is hearing.

  • Begin at a comfortable pace while players learn the flow.
  • Use the pause controls when you need to make an announcement or check a claim.
  • Watch the host screen for players waiting to join and new bingo claims.
  • Keep the host page and any required playback software running.

7. Review bingo claims and confirm winners

When a player calls Bingo, the claim appears on the host screen. BingoBeats indicates whether the claim is valid and shows the winning pattern when available.

Review the claim before announcing a winner. Use Confirm Win to record an accepted claim, then announce the player and award any prize you have planned.

An invalid claim should not be confirmed. Explain the required pattern and help the player understand what is missing.

8. Finish the round

Select Finish Game when you are ready to end the round. Read the confirmation before continuing, because ending the round affects all players.

For supported connected playback, choose whether to stop the music or keep it playing. With External Player, stop or change the music in your playback software yourself.

Announce the final winners and explain whether another game is coming. Finish the current game before preparing a new one.

  • Thank the players and acknowledge the winners.
  • Check whether the playlist and pace worked for the audience.
  • Note any setup issues to resolve before your next event.

Before you press Start Game

  • Your playlist and playback setup have been tested.
  • The winning pattern has been selected and explained.
  • Players have joined, been admitted, and can see their cards.
  • The sound and any Jumbotron display are ready.
  • You know how to review claims and finish the round.
